Reference texts
The reference manual for the study of the matter is, for all, G. Gardini, Le regole dell'informazione. L'era della post-verità, Giappichelli, 2017.

With reference to module I, the teacher will provide students attending classes during the handouts useful insights.

Students wishing to take the exam as non-attending are asked to contact the teacher (benedetto.ponti@unipg.it ), for guidance on how to prepare for the exam, with specific reference to module I.
Educational objectives
The course aims to equip students with the basic legal knowledge regarding the principles and rules that govern the media system and its relevants sectors. To this end there is an introductory module on the principles and tools for regulating the exercise of personal freedom and business activities by public authorities.
Prerequisites

Teaching methods
The Course is delivered as a traditional lecture (italian language).Readings and other teaching materials are also available in
English language for student from abroad.
Learning verification modality
Assessment by oral examination. Intermediate write texts.
Extended program
The course is divided into two modules.
Module I (3 credits): Principles, institutions and instruments for the regulation of personal freedom, business law and protection of public interests.
The module has preliminary character, and aims to provide the tools needed to understand the ways in which the public authorities intervene to regulate the exercise of personal freedoms and the right business for the purposes of balance (mutual and competing public interests of constitutional significance)

Module II (6 credits): Media Law.

- The legal principles and the basics of: the freedom of expression, information’ rights and limits;

- The rules and the logic of convergence: the press, radio and television, the show (brief), telecommunications, web;

- Actors and regulatory institutions: the profession of journalism, the government of information, the public service broadcasting, the so called independent regulatory agencies.

For students who do not attend, the program is there is in large the same, but with some variations and further development of some specific issues, through the assigned readings.

To take the 9 CFU exam (intended for remaining students of the degree in Mass Communication), the student have to agreed with the teacher with the study of an additional text or writing a short paper; if you do not attend, see at reference texts.
