Contents Introduction to Physics. Mechanics of the material point and systems of material points. Fluid Mechanics. Thermodynamics.
Reference texts D. Halliday, R. Resnick, J. Walker. - Fundamentals of Physics - Wiley ed.

H.D. Young, R.A. Freedman, A.L. Ford. - University Physics with modern Physics, 13th ed. - Ed. Pearson Education
Educational objectives Understanding of the physical meaning of the basic concepts in Mechanics and Thermodynamics. Being able to solve problems of mechanics and thermodynamics. Being able to clearly present and explain the topics covered during the lectures.
Prerequisites Solution of basic integrals and basic differential equations.
Teaching methods Lectures and exercises. The topics of the course will be treated in the course of lectures which will be alternated with exercises to facilitate the acquisition of skills related to problem solving.
Learning verification modality The exam consists of a compulsory written test and an optional oral test.
The written test is aimed at verifying the ability to solve problems and consists of 3/4 exercises.
The written test is passed if a minimum score of 18/30 is obtained.
The student who has passed the written test can take an optional oral test, during which he will be asked to explain some of the topics covered during the course.
Extended program Introduction to Physics. Units of measurement, physical quantities and vectors. Mechanics of the material point and systems of material points. Kinematics of a material point. Dynamics of the material point. Force. Newton's laws. Work and energy. Conservative forces and potential energy. Conservation of mechanical energy. Momentum and collisions. Systems dynamics. Rotational dynamics. Dynamics and static of the rigid body. Gravitation. Fluid Mechanics. Density and pressure of a fluid. Archimedes' principle. Ideal fluid. Motion of a fluid. Reference texts Halliday, Resnick, Walker: Fundamentals of Physics. Vol II - VII Edition
Educational objectives Gaining an understanding of the theoretical and experimental principles underpinning electrostatics and magnetostatics.
Ability to apply the theoretical knowledge to solve simple problems and exercises.
Prerequisites Basic knowledge of algebra, analytic geometry, plane trigonometry, differential and integral calculus. Having attended the First Module of the course on Classical Mechanics.
Teaching methods Theoretical lectures, exercises and tutorials.

Learning verification modality The exam consists of a written and, eventually, an oral exam. The result of the written test is decisive for admission to the oral test. The oral is required only if you reach a minimum result. In the case of oral examination, it is not carried out a strict arithmetic mean between the written test and oral exam. In the written test the student must demonstrate the ability to solve at least two of the three problems assigned. The time assigned to solve the problems is 2- 3 hours.
