- "Green Chemistry" represents a modern scientific and technological platform through which it is intended to develop efficient chemical processes from the chemical and environmental point of view.
"Green Chemistry" deals with the exploitation of biomass, waste minimization, energy and environmental efficiency of a chemical process. - Reference texts
- Those attending will be provided, electronically, with the same material used by the lecturer for classroom lessons.
- Educational objectives
- The aim is to provide the cultural tools needed to assess the environmental impact of chemical production and to identify the most important areas of research that need to be developed to achieve sustainable development.
The course should show the student the importance of designing chemical processes in the development of modern chemistry. The student will be directed to the application of sustainable design methodologies in various fields such as energy, biomass enhancement and clean production of large industrial production molecules.
The course should allow the student to acquire the following basic knowledge:
Know the definition of biomass and safety of a chemical process.
Understand the importance of waste minimization and adequate design for sustainability.
Know the metrics that allow to measure the chemical and environmental efficiency of a chemical process.
Know and the methods for selecting a safe and sustainable solvent.
Understand the principles of classification of reactions to the atomic economy.
Know the methodologies and choices that have led to the optimization of the environmental impact of the production of large molecule production.
The main skills (ie the ability to apply the acquired knowledge) will be:
To be able to understand the potential scope of the principles of "green chemistry".
To be able to understand the life cycle of an organic compound and in particular of a solvent used in chemical processes.
Being able to evaluate the various factors that lead to the assessment of an environmental process.
Being able to apply metrics to measure the environmental impact of a chemical process. - Prerequisites

- The proof of profit includes the assessment of written reports on laboratory activities and an oral test, which will involve the formulation of 4-5 questions over a period of approximately 40 minutes. The test is aimed at assessing students' abilities and assessing the environmental impact of a chemical process and distinguishing the various factors that influence it.
The overall evaluation of the exam will take into account the following aspects: correctness and adequacy of responses, processing skills and conceptual connection, mastery and language skills, according to the following percentages: 60%, 20%, 20%. - Extended program
