Contents
Methods and models to describe the electronic and optical behavior of a material, taken as an organic or inorganic collective system.
Relationship between chemical-physical properties and dimensionality of materials;
methods for describing the main electronic and optical properties of nanostructured and nanohybrid materials.
Reference texts
Teaching material recommended and / or made available by the teachers.
Educational objectives
Regularly following the course regularly and successfully, the student will acquire:
- knowledge of the principles that determine the electronic and chemical properties of organic and inorganic materials;
- knowledge of dimensional and surface effects on the electronic properties of nanomaterials;
- ability to rationalize the optical and spectroscopic phenomena and being able to describe them, using the basic principles and models acquired;
- ability to use a technical-scientific language appropriate to the problems dealt with.
Prerequisites
In order to understand the conceptual contents and successfully attend the course, the student should already own some basic knowledge on:
- Maxwell's equations
- Chemical bonds; molecular orbitals model.
- Quantum bases of matter radiation interaction.
Teaching methods
The course is organized in two parts of classroom lectures on all topics of the course with the help of video devices:
The first part (for a total of 4 ECTS) deals with the development of methods and models to describe the behavior of organic or inorganic collective systems
The second part (for a total of 4 ECTS) uses the methods and models to describe the main properties of nanostructured and nano hybrid materials.
Learning verification modality
The evaluation is conducted by an oral exam, which consists of a discussion lasting about 30-45 minutes aimed at ascertaining the level of knowledge and understanding achieved by students on the theoretical and methodological implications mentioned in the program.
he oral exam will also test the communication skills of the student with scientific jargon proper device and the ability to apply theoretical concepts to practical exercises and experiments.
