Quantitative and qualitative variables. Experimental and observational model. Total and sample survey. Sampling methods. The statistical survey. The questionnaire.
Simple and double entry tables. Relative, percentage and cumulative frequencies. Graphical representation of simple distributions for discrete qualitative variables, continuous quantitative or by classes.
Summary of the distribution of a variable: the arithmetic average, the median, the weighted mean, the percentiles. The variability of phenomena. Indices based on the deviation from the arithmetic mean: variance, deviance, standard deviation, coefficient of variation. Other variability indices: interquartile difference. Concentration: definition and measurement. Absolute and relative concentration index. Definition of asymmetry: properties of a symmetric distribution.
Analysis of the association between two variables: independence and association. Chi-square index and V of Cramer. Concordance, discordance, indifference. Scatter plot. Covariance. Bravais-Pearson coefficient.
The inear regression model: estimation and interpretation of the parameters
