Contents The training module is designed to provide the student with the pathophysiological basis of cardiorespiratory disability both primitive and secondary, to provide tools for clinical assessment and functional capacity and to formulate a rehabilitation program and to verify the result.
Reference texts 1) Esame clinico e valutazione in riabilitazione respiratoria ed. Masson Mi 2006; a cura di Marta Lazzeri et al.
2) Riabilitazione cardiologica. A. Galati, C. Vigorito. Edi Ermes MI, 2012.
Educational objectives Student completing the course will demonstrate knowledge of:
-i key pathophysiological elements that generate disability cardiorespiratory
-the common mode of clinical presentation of cardiorespiratory disease -the terms of clinical and instrumental evaluation of its disability
The student must also demonstrate an ability to:
-recognize cardiorespiratory symptoms and clinical signs related (also instrumental)
Prerequisites In order to understand and apply the knowledge acquired during the course of teaching, the student must know the fundamentals of cardiorespiratory physipathology.
Teaching methods The course consists of lectures characterized by constant dialogue between teacher and students to check their level of understanding and frequent references to clinical examples practices.
Other information Is recommended to attend the course.
Learning verification modality The test is an oral examination lasting about 20 minutes aimed at verifying the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the program. The student will also be able to properly organize the exhibition content using appropriately technical terminology.
Extended program 1. Definition, indications, goals and efficacy of pulmonary rehabilitation
2. Respiratory kinesiology and gas exchange
3. Elastic properties of the chest wall
4. COPD and pulmonary rehabilitation
5. Respiratory Failure: classification and phisiopathology
6. Functional evaluation, individual project and programs in pulmonary rehabilitation
7. Cardiac pathology and phisiopathogy in cardiac rehabilitation
8. Cardiac rehabilitation: defiinition, gols and phases
9.Functional evaluation and protocols in cardiac rehabilitation
10. Benefits physical activity on the cardiovascular system
11. Bed rest syndrome and cardiorespiratory consequences.

Basic principles of human nutrition. Basic geriatrics/gerontological concepts. Physiopathological basis of major disorders of the elderly. Indications and main elements of geriatric rehabilitation.
Reference texts “Principi di Medicina Interna” Harrison Ed. Mc Graw-Hill “Paziente Anziano Paziente Geriatrico – Medicina della Complessità” Fondamenti di Gerontologia e Geriatria. U. Senin
Educational objectives The student must acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge of:- the pathophysiological basis of functional disorders of the cardiovascular system, the signs and symptoms, pathogenesis and pathophysiology of the most important clinical pathologies of internal medicine, with reference to the clinical examination, diagnostic tools and the theoretical basis of a rehabilitation treatment.- the basic elements of geriatric assessment, diseases and disorders that are more common to or that have particular features in older people, and geriatric rehabilitation.
Prerequisites In order to be able to understand the topics matter of the module, students must have the basic notions of anatomy and physiology of cardiovascular system.
Teaching methods Face-to-face lectures
Learning verification modality The assessment is done through an oral examination, lasting about 30 minutes, during which knowledge and skills acquired about each module of the course are evaluated. The student will also demonstrated effective use of appropriate technical terminology.
Extended program The Cardiovascular System:- Structure and function of various vascular beds- Endothelial modulation of vascular tone- Atherosclerosis: pathophysiology and risk factors- Ischemic heart disease: unstable angina and heart failure- Cerebrovascular disease- Pericarditis, endocarditis and myocarditis- Heart valve disease- Peripheral Arterial Disease- Chronic Venous Insufficiency- Chronic LymphedemaThe Anemias. Educational objectives At the end of the course, the student must be able to recognize: signs and symptoms of cardiorespiratory pathologies - the methods of clinical and instrumental evaluation and of the disabilities connected to them; setting up an adequate rehabilitation program taking into account the difference between adult and child. The student will also have to demonstrate knowledge of the pathophysiological mechanisms and the application of the main bronchial unblocking techniques both in the patient in the acute and chronic phases
Prerequisites The student must possess the notions general principles of physiology and pathophysiology of the main cardio-respiratory pathologies of rehabilitation interest
Teaching methods The course is organized in lectures with active and constant participation between teacher and students. Practical exercises on the main assessment tests, training methods and techniques clearing of both manual and instrumental airways .. (teaching theoretical/practical)
Other information Nothing to declare
Learning verification modality The exam includes an oral test lasting about 15 minutes aimed at verifying the acquisition of the knowledge and practical skills contained in the program. Furthermore, he/she must be able to present using clinical reasoning regarding programs carried out in class.
