- The course provides the basic theoretical and analytical foundations for understanding and analysing key problems of economic development in a comparative framework and the related issues of global governance of the most important international organizations.

- The course aims to provide the basic theoretical and analytical foundations for understanding key problems of economic development, as well as related issues of global governance of the most important international organizations. Students ought to acquire knowledge and skills for understanding and analysing major current problems of economic development at the global level.

- Knowledge of basic concepts of macro and microeconomics
- Teaching methods
- Lectures, group discussions and individual students' presentations

- For students attending the course the exam consists in two parts: (1) a research on a specific topic, to be presented in class; (2) a written exam consisting of multiple choice and open questions, based on the readings and additional references provided on-line (Unistudium). For students not
attending lectures the exam is written with multiple choice and open questions based on the readings and additional references provided online (Unistudium). - Extended program

1. Understanding underdevelopment from a historical perspective
2. Theories of economic development
3. The world today: facts about development in a globalized world
4. International aid, alternative modes of financing development and
overall results
5. Globalization and the effects of trade and financial liberalization
6. Global governance: the role of the main international organizations

7. Global problems: UN Millenium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals
