Contents
The program includes an introductive part in which the general aspects of parasitic diseases e.g. pest-host and environment interactions, environmental and management factors that determine the outset of parasitic diseases, evaluation and predictive elements for parasitic diseases, productive damages, zoonotic aspects and socio-economic importance of parasitic diseases, are treated. Then the systematic part including
protozoans, mycetes, helminthes, arthropods, with particular importance for those having a public health concerns for human beings are discussed.
For each parasitic group, the following aspects are treated: morpho- biology, immunological interactions between parasite and host, pathogenesis and clinical signs, diagnosis and control (therapy and prophylaxis).
There are also discussed issues of application interest such as resistance of anthelminthes drugs, development of vaccines, variation of epidemiological circuits of parasitic diseases due to climate- environmental and socio-economic changes.

Educational objectives
Educational objectives
¿affecting domestic animals and caused by protozoans, helminthes, arthropods and mycetes;
(B) focusing on the main public health aspects of pests of zoonotic relevance;
(C) stimulate the construction of diagnostic algorithms that lead to an appropriate diagnosis and treatment of parasitic disease, discriminating among the several differential diagnosis and available tests and taking in to account the biological time of parasitic development.
Teaching methods
Theory: detailed lessons the parasitic diseases included in the program; the lesson will be attended in a class of the teaching building of the Vet School
Practice: didactic laboratories for the acquisition of the main diagnostic techniques to be applied during suspected parasitic disease; the practical activities will attended in the multidisciplinary laboratories of the old buiding of the vet School
Self-directed learning activities: preparation and presentation of a short lesson on a parasitic disease not explained during the frontal lesson that the students will choice based on their interest and led by the teacher. This activity will be carried out by numerically homogeneous groups of students.
