Educational objectives
The candidate must be able to carry out a correct diagnostic path in the context of the main neoplastic conditions of companion animals.

The course represents the first course dedicated to the management of surgical neoplastic diseases of small and large animals.

The main objective of the course is to provide the basis for dealing with the main neoplastic pathologies in small animals through theoretical and practical sessions.

The main knowledge acquired will be those focused above all for the evaluation of the patient (anamnesis and reporting), the diagnostic procedure to be followed and the surgical planning to be implemented.

The main skills (i.e. the ability to apply the acquired knowledge) will be the acquisition by the student to independently manage neoplastic cases in small animals from diagnosis to surgical therapy
D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student must
- have knowledge of the main neoplastic diseases and related elective surgical therapies in small animals.
D2 - ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The main objective of the course is to provide, through theoretical and practical sessions, the basis for addressing the main neoplastic problems in small animals. The main knowledge acquired will be mainly focused on: evaluation of the neoplastic patient, management of the patient with neoplastic emergencies, etc.
At the end of the training, the student must:
- be able to recognize neoplastic emergencies
- be able to carry out the main actions aimed at the diagnosis and therapy of the neoplasm
- knowing how to distinguish between surgical and non-surgical neoplastic problems
- be able to indicate the main therapeutic procedures in animals with neoplastic pathologies
D3 - AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
At the end of the training, the student must be able to:
- evaluate the therapies for the main neoplastic pathologies most appropriate for a patient (Dog or Cat)
- The main skills (i.e. the ability to apply the knowledge acquired) will be the acquisition by the student of knowing how to manage firsthand and autonomously cases of neoplastic diseases in small animals from diagnosis to therapy up to follow-up
D4 - COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At the end of the training, the student must be able to:
- know how to organize, prepare and present, to an audience composed of people of equal level of preparation, a presentation on a neoplastic pathology of companion animals with their own assessments supported by appropriate arguments,
- support a cross-examination with people both of equal preparation and experts in different topics, of a regulatory or scientific nature,
procedural and / or technological,
- demonstrate language properties in both written and oral form, as well as the ability to use sufficiently appropriate terminology for
a correct approach to the profession, also important for job interviews.
D5 - LEARNING SKILLS
At the end of the training, the student must be able to:
- consult and understand scientific texts, including innovative ones, bibliographic updates, regulatory dictates, in order to use them in contexts that are not only usual for the profession, including research, but also original ones regarding neoplastic pathologies
- possess a sufficiently broad mastery of the subject to ensure an acceptable basis for continuing professional updating on neoplastic pathologies throughout the life span, through continuous continuous training
Prerequisites
The candidate must have followed the course of Veterinary Surgery I and II.
The course represents the first teaching dedicated to the management of surgical neoplastic diseases of small animals.
Teaching methods
The course represents the first teaching dedicated to the management of surgical neoplastic diseases of children.
Other information
The main objective of the course is to provide, through practical sessions, the bases for dealing with the main oncological diseases in domestic animals.
The emphasis of the Oncology course is to furnish sufficient clinical knowledge and skills to practice veterinary oncology surgery in small animals, and also to provide with the scientific background to respond to future trends and advances in veterinary Oncology.
Learning verification modality
The main knowledge acquired will be those focused above all on the evaluation of the patient (medical history and signaling), the diagnostic procedure to be followed and the surgical planning to be implemented.
