- The course aims to offer a theoretical - practical training course in the kennels / catteries.
D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student must acquire a theoretical - practical knowledge of the operational reality of kennels / catteries, in particular:
a) prevention and behavioral management
b) prevention and health management
c) management of dogs and cats in facilities and management of adoptions
d) protection and promotion of animal welfare
e) enhancement of the human-animal relationship
f) evaluation of animal welfare in kennels
g) foundations and application of the RandAgiamo project
D2 - ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING At the end of the training, the student must be able to carry out an assessment of the behavior and state of well-being of animals housed in kennels / catteries.
D3 - AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT At the end of the training activity the student must be able to evaluate, at basic levels, indicators of the state of well-being of the animals housed in kennels / catteries and of the activities and / or enrichment programs that can be implemented to improve their quality of life.
D4 - COMMUNICATION SKILLS At the end of the training activity the student must be able to support a cross-examination with people both of equal preparation and experts in different topics, of a regulatory, scientific, procedural and / or technological nature on activities related to the management of animals hosted in kennels / catteries for aspects related to behavior and well-being.
D5 - LEARNING SKILLS At the end of the training activity the student must be able to consult and understand scientific texts, bibliographic updates and regulations concerning the management of animals housed in kennels / catteries, in order to use them in contexts that are not only usual for the profession, including research, but also applications to improve the living conditions of animals, know how to relate to people of different roles and professionalism who orbit in kennels / catteries and have the motivation to continue professional updating throughout the period of life, through ongoing ongoing formation. - Teaching methods

- 1. Dog and cat ethology. Behavioral management of the puppy, adult and elderly. Practical observation of animal behavior. Qualitative assessment of behavior. Emotions and animal welfare. Bioethics.
2. National and regional legislation on kennels / catteries. Feline colonies. Role of the ASL veterinarian. Ill-treatment and abandonment, problem analysis, operational team and professionals involved, inspections and operational protocols.

3. RandAgiamo Project: behavioral evaluation, training, environmental and social enrichment programs. The kennel as a zooanthropological garrison. Programs and activities with the public. Adoption management and follow up.
4. Health management of kennels / catteries (prevention, general medicine, surgery). Collaboration with the OVUD. Adoption management and dog registry.
Behavioral management: individual (subjects with behavioral problems, outline of behavioral medicine) and group: social, environmental enrichment and recreational / recreational activities (team work).
5. The role of the ASL veterinarian in relations with the public, associations, institutions. Collaboration with the OVUD and the RandAgiamo project. Interpersonal communication (working in a team), staff management, communication with owners, relations with the public, animal welfare associations, adopters and communication on social networks.
