The course provides specialized training in the phatophysiologic processes of animal surgical diseases. Generalities about more relevant pathologic processes and treatment of each single anatomic systems specific diseases, with particular emphasis on patho-physiologic mechanisms will be treated

Educational objectives
D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student must:
- have knowledge of the etiopathogenetic aspects of the main surgical disease;
- have the ability to differentiate the anatomical structures affected by pathological processes (hard and soft tissues).

D2 - ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of training activity the student must:
- be able to identify the site, type and cause of the disease based on clinical and diagnostic findings obtained on the animal;
- be able to recognize and differentiate traumatic, degenerative, dysplastic and neoplastic pathologies.

D3 - AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
At the end of the training activity the student must be able to:
- direct the patient towards a correct diagnostic process aimed at defining the causes responsible for the disease.

D4- COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At the end of training activity the student must:
- be able to describe with adequate terminology the lesions found and the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying them;
- prepare and present a clinical case pertinent to the topics covered, illustrating the causes and methods of development of the lesion.

D5 - LEARNING SKILLS
At the end of the training activity the student must be able to:
- consult and understand scientific tests and bibliographic updates;
- have adequate basic knowledge concerning the surgical disease of domestic animals.
Prerequisites

Teaching methods
The lectures, 27 hours, are held in a classroom of the educational center
of the faculty with the help of visual aids in order to complete the
theoretical concepts pictures from the different pathologies treated;
practices, 12 hours, are held in local veterinary teaching hospital
(operating rooms, outpatient clinics, Radiologic room, CT and ultrasound)
to allow each student a direct approach to the cases of surgical
relevance.
