Contents
The Program includes an introductory part concerning the general aspects of Parasitology: the concept of parasitism, pathways of propagation and elimination of parasites, the pathogenic actions of parasites, damage caused to the host and its reactions, the technical-scientific terminology.
Following are taken into consideration the different parasitic groups belonging to the group of protozoa, helminths, arthropods and fungi of particular importance for their impact on animal and human health.
For each group of pests the following topics are examined: taxonomy, morphology, biological cycle and epidemiological aspects.

Educational objectives
D1 – KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Attending the course the students will have to acquire basic knowledge about the main morphological characteristics of parasitic life organisms, dependency relationships between organisms, forms of parasitism, host-parasite-environment relationship, biological cycles, concepts of epidemiology, immune mechanisms, taxonomy a linneana binomial nomenclature of protozoa, helminths, arthropods and mycetes of greater correspondence and importance in Veterinary Medicine and public health.
D2 – APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the skills necessary for the knowledge of the morphology and biology of parasites of medical-veterinary interest. Students will learn to use microscopic tools independently in order to acquire the basic skills useful for the morphological recognition of the main parasites.
D3 – MAKING JUDGMENT
At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the skills necessary for the knowledge of the morphology and biology of parasites of medical-veterinary interest. Students will learn to use microscopic tools independently in order to acquire the basic skills useful for the morphological identification of the main parasites.
D4 - COMMUNICATION
At the end of the course the student must be able to demonstrate language and argumentation properties concerning parasitic problems, as well as the ability to use terminology that is sufficiently appropriate for a correct approach to the profession, which is also important for job interviews.
D5 – LIFELONG LEARNING SKILLS
At the end of the course the student will be able to face and understand the teaching module of Parasitic Diseases of Domestic Animals and the future elective educational activities and pre-training of parasitology planned for the 4th and 5th year and will be able to recognize the etiological agents of a parasitic nature that will be found at livestock farms, veterinary clinics, kennels.
Prerequisites

Teaching methods
Theoretical activity: detailed lessons on all parasites included in the program, to be carried out in a classroom of the educational pole.
Practical activity: attendance of educational laboratories for the acquisition of the recognition of parasitic elements and identification keys.
