- D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student must have:
1 Knowledge of reproductive anatomy and physiology of livestock animals
2 Knowledge of techniques of breeding soundness examination of the cow
D2 - APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the training the student will be able to perform:
1 Knowledge of reproductive anatomy and physiology of livestock animals
2 Knowledge of techniques of breeding soundness examination of the cow
3 Knowledge of prodromic signs of parturition and fetal wellness
4 Clinical management of parturition
5 Knowledge of hygiene of reproduction
D3 - MAKING JUDGMENT
At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1 Assess the prodromic signs of parturition
2 Provide assistance to calving cow
D4 - COMMUNICATION
At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1 Organize, prepare and exhibit, to an audience made up of people of equal level of preparation, a seminar on a clinical cas of calving with their own evaluations supported by appropriate arguments
2 Support an adversarial process with people of equal preparation and experts in different issues, of a regulatory, scientific, procedural and/or technological nature,
3 Demonstrate language properties in both written and oral form, as well as the ability to use terminology that is sufficiently appropriate for a correct approach to the profession, which is also important for job interviews.

At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1 consult and understand scientific texts, even innovative ones, bibliographic updates, normative dictations, so as to employ them in contexts not only usual for the profession, including research, but also originals
2 manage a sufficiently broad mastery of the subject to guarantee an acceptable basis for continuing professional updating through ongoing lifelong learning. - Teaching methods
- PRATICAL ACTIVITIES:
Practical activities carried out in different local farms on on term pregnant cows.. Students must perform a clinical examination of a calving cow; furthermore, they will perform an APGAR evaluation of the new born calf.
Calving management and assistance and administration of neonatal cares.
Students will be groupped in teams of 4 each clinical case. Furnitures required: tuta zootecnica, scarpe antinfortunistiche e long plastic gloves.
SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING ACTIVITIES: description of a clinical case report, supported by reasearch of on-line scientific papers. - Learning verification modality
- During the clinical sessions, the the teacher/tutor will verify student’s ability to achieve a parturion in a cow and to manage a dystoc case. Furthermore, the teacher will verify student’s case report. For students with disability see the following link http://www.unipg.it/disabilita-e-dsa
