Contents
The course deals with products for regenerative medicine, the branch of human and veterinary medicine aimed at the regeneration of damaged cells, tissues and organs, through the development of approaches based on the use of biological products. In the last decade these therapies have found wide diffusion in the veterinary medical field. The course will provide basic knowledge on mesenchymal stem / stromal cells, on their isolation and manipulation in vitro, on platelet derivatives, on biomaterials and their integration with products for regenerative medicine, on cell derivatives usable for regenerative applications.
Reference texts
Didactic material and scientific papers provided by the teacher.
Educational objectives
The course aims to provide the basic principles of the preparation, management and use of stem cells and other products for regenerative medicine. The student will acquire the autonomy of judgment, critical, communicative and learning skills necessary.
Prerequisites
None
Teaching methods
Practical lessons in the lab
Learning verification modality
Multiple-choice questions
Extended program
Mesenchymal stromal cells: isolation from different tissue matrices, in vitro culture and amplification, characterization, biological and therapeutic properties.
Platelet derivatives: role of platelets in tissue regeneration; preparation of platelet concentrates and their use in tissue regeneration.
Secretoma and extracellular vesicles: methods of preparation and characterization.
Regenerative medicine in the veterinary field: description and critical discussion of clinical applications.
