- Attending the ADE, it will be made a focus on the main control measures for the major parasitic diseases of dog, cat and exotic animals (e.g. rodents, rabbits, reptiles, birds, ferrets) caused by ectoparasites (mainly ticks, fleas, sand fly and mosquitos), protozoan agents and helminths.

- Scientific articles (mainly English reviews) and selected presentations concerning the major control measures against endo and ectoparasites of dog, cat and main exotic animals, will be collected in a dedicated folder titled " ADE Parasitic Disease Management ", which can be viewed and downloaded by the students from the" Unistudium "platform at the link" https://www.unistudium.unipg.it/unistudium/login/index.php;

- D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Attendind the ADE, the student will acquire additional specific knowledges compared those acquired during the Teaching Course of "Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases of Domestic Animals", concerning the control and / or prevention plans of parasitic diseases of higher impact in Veterinary Medicine and Public Health in pets and in NACs (new pets).
D2 - ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student at the end of the ADE will have the ability to develop, independently, a prophylactic and therapeutic plan for the control of some of the main parasitic diseases affecting dogs, cats and species belonging to the NACs.
D3 - AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
At the end of the ADE, the student will be able to independently manage a parasitosis, deciding the most correct therapeutic and prophylactic plan.
D4 - COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At the end of the training activity, the student must be able to demonstrate properties of language and argumentation around management issues that concern both pets and NACs (new pets).
D5 - LEARNING SKILLS
The skills acquired with the ADE will allow the student to participate in the following years in practical training activities both in the field of Parasitology (see pre-internship in Parasitology) and in the clinical one and to be ready to suggest the most therapeutic and prophylactic protocols. also suitable for external structures. - Prerequisites
- The students need to have already attended and received the frequency signature of the course of "Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases of Domestic Animals". Moreover it could be useful for a better understanding of the contents of the present course to have obtained the frequency signature also for the Teaching Course of "Pharmacology and Toxicology"
- Teaching methods
- Introductive lessons of about one hour for each on the 8 main topics of the course; seminars will be hold by the Professor at the Didactic Laboratory of the Ex-Section of Parasitology. At the end of each introductive lesson it will be given to homogeneous groups of students, a variable number of case studies (from 1 to 4 depending on the subject). Students will have between 1 and 3 hours of time to study and develop the therapeutic and prophylaxis protocols most suitable for their case study; at the end of the time required the cases will be illustrated during collegial presentations.

- Learning verification modality
- Written test with open (n. 4) and closed answers (n. 20) will be administrated in the last hour of the course.
The suitability of the student will be achieved by demonstrating the ability to adequately respond to open questions that test the ability to develop suitable treatment protocols for parasitic interest cases (at least 2 out of the 4 cases administered) and at least 50% of the multiple- choice closed questions on the topics discussed in the lessons.

¿enteritis caused by Giardia Tritrichomonas and coccidia (1 h);

- Seminar on therapeutic and prophylactic treatment against ascarids, trichurids, anchylostomiasis of cats and dogs (1 h);
- N. 2 case studies administrated to homogeneous groups of students, study of the cases, development of suitable protocols of treatment and prophylaxis, collegial presentations (2 h).
- Seminar on therapeutic and environmental prophylaxis against lungworms parasites (e.g capillariosis, metastrongylosis) of dog and cat (1 h);
-N. 4 case studies administrated to homogeneous groups of students, study of the cases, development of suitable protocols of treatment and prophylaxis, collegial presentations (3 h).
- Seminar on the therapeutic and prophylactic measures and vaccine treatment of canine leishmaniasis (1 h)
-N. 1 case study administrated to homogeneous groups of students, study of the case, development of suitable protocols of treatment and prophylaxis, collegial presentations (1 h)
- Seminar on therapeutic and prophylactic measures against cardiopulmonary and subcutaneous filariasis of the dog (1 h) - N. 1 case study administrated to homogeneous groups of students, study of the case, development of suitable protocols of treatment and prophylaxis, collegial presentations (1 h)
-Seminar on the therapeutic and prophylactic treatment of the main helminthic, protozoan and ectoparasitic infestations of reptiles (ophidians, saurians, chelons) and aviary birds (1 h);
-Administration of n. 4 case studies with homogeneous groups of students, study, elaboration of suitable treatment and prophylaxis protocols, collegial presentations (3 h).
-Seminar on the treatment of the main helminthic, protozoan and ectoparasitic infestations of pet rodents (chinchilla, guinea pig, hamster, mouse and rat) lagomorphs (rabbit) and mustelids (ferret) (1 h);
-Administration of n. 1 case study with homogeneous groups of students, study, elaboration of suitable treatment and prophylaxis protocols, collegial presentation (1 h).
