- The ADE foresees the carrying out of practical activity of equine musculoskeletal ultrasound to be developed on didactic horses.

- D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY
The student have to:
- know the ultrasonographic anatomy of included areas
- know the ultrasound technique to identify the included areas
D2 - ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the training, the student will be able to:
- how to approach an ultrasonographic examination of the included areas.
D3 - AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
At the end of the training, the student will be able to:
- know how to perform and interprete the ultrasonographic appearance of the included areas
D4 - COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At the end of the training, the student will be able to:
- know how to report to an appropriate audience the ultrasonographic anatomy and normal appearance of the included areas

At the end of the training, the student will be able to:
- consult and understand scientific test, literature update where the musculoskeletal ultrasonographic techniques is used and described. - Prerequisites
- In order to understand and to apply the procedures required in this course, it is necessary to have passed the exams of Veterinary surgery II. For some topics the ability to interpret basic rultrasonographic scans of the limb of the horse will be required to pass the course with profit.
- Teaching methods
- The ADE is organized as follow:
practical exercise in surgical or ambulatory rooms of the Surgery Unit of the OVUD. According to the number, students will be divided in two or three groups and as a group will take place directly ultrasound examination on didactic horses (two hours), the other group will follow the teaching materials (slide) to interpret and perform the ultrasonografic diagnosis under the teacher supervision. - Other information
- This course includes also complementary didactic activity represented by meetings and seminars with PhD students, interns and students by planning and agreeing with the student during the ADE
- Learning verification modality
- Final discussion with the students. Preparation of power points about previously assigned clinical cases, in order to assess the methods of approach to musculoskeletal ultrasonographic examination and the knowledge acquired during ADE in relation to musculoskeletal ultrasonography of the horse
- Extended program
- The ADE foresees the carrying out of practical activity of musculoskeletal ultrasonography on didactic horses and interpretation of abnormal findings on clinical cases. Acquisition of ultrasonographic scans of metacarpus, pastern, fetlock, carpal canal and stifle.
