Contents 1) Pregnancy diagnosis (N.5 ore)

2) Pathology of pregnancy: Abortion; mummification and fetal maceration; Fetal membranes and fetus hydrops; Torsion of the uterus, prolapse of the uterus and cervix / vagina (N.4 ore).

3) Premonitory signs and stages of labor; Involution of the uterus. The dystocial: Causes of dystocia (maternal and fetal); Diagnosis and treatment of various forms of dystocia: preliminary procedures and management of dystocia; Obstetric operations: mutation, Extraction forced, Fetotomy, Caesarean section and hysterectomy (N.5 ore)

4) Postpartum disorders: postpartum haemorrhages, lacerations and contusions of the birth canal, vagina and perineum tearing of the uterus, prolapse of the uterus, retention of fetal membranes, metritis septic; metabolic diseases of post partum (N.5 ore).

5) Infertility in cattle: infectious causes, hormonal, congenital and nutritional; Repeat cow breeders; diagnosis and treatments (N.4 ore).

6) Infertility in the mare: Irregularities of the estrous cycle, genital infections, tumors of the genital tract, diseases of the perineum, vagina and cervix / uterus; diagnosis and treatments (N.4 ore).



Program

Educational objectives The purpose is to form Vets with an excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of reproductive and pregnancy dysfunctions and diseases of livestock animals, needed to develop diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities appropriate.
D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student must have:
1 Knowledge of reproductive diseases of livestock animals
2 Knowledge of pregnancy diseases, parturition and puerperium
3 Knowledge of main obstetric surgeries
D2 - APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the training the student will be able to perform:
1 Breeding soundness evaluation of different farm animals
2 Pregnancy diagnois
3 Diagnosis e therapy of main causes of female infertility in different farm animals
D3 - MAKING JUDGMENT
At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1 Pregnancy diagnosis in different farm animals
2 Perform a diagnostic procedure and therapeutic protocol of the main reproductive diseases
3 Evaluate the prognosis of the main reproductive diseases
D4 - COMMUNICATION
At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1 Organize, prepare and exhibit, to an audience made up of people of equal level of preparation, a seminar on a data reproductive pathology with their own evaluations supported by appropriate arguments
2 Support an adversarial process with people of equal preparation and experts in different issues, of a regulatory, scientific, procedural and/or technological nature,
3 Demonstrate language properties in both written and oral form, as well as the ability to use terminology that is sufficiently appropriate for a correct approach to the profession, which is also important for job interviews.
D5 - LIFELONG LEARNING SKILLS
At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1 consult and understand scientific texts, even innovative ones, bibliographic updates, normative dictations, so as to employ them in contexts not only usual for the profession, including research, but also originals
2 manage a sufficiently broad mastery of the subject to guarantee an acceptable basis for continuing professional updating through ongoing lifelong learning.
Teaching methods Theoretical lessons: classroom on all topics listed in the program .
Practical activity:
1) Obstetrical procedures to the peripartum bovine
2) Obstetric care, parturition and neonatal care
3) Gynecological and ultrasound examination of the genital tract of the mare
Activities: maximum 15 students) for some activities and in 11 teams (Clinical Rotations: maximum 5 students). Required furniture: long zoothecnical gloves, boot and coverall
Self - directed learning activities : preparation of a presentation and description of a case report on a clinical case observed during the Clinical Rotation activities, based on online searches.

Educational objectives To know: the student must know the general concepts of the ultrasound technique and the ultrasonographic characteristics of the genital apparatus in the different animal species in physiological and pathological conditions as well as the evolution of the product of conception.

The student must be able to interpret an ultrasound image related to pregnancy, to the different phases of the estrous cycle and to pathologies of the uterus, ovary and gestation
Teaching methods Theoretical activity: it will take place in the classroom and will cover all the topics reported in the program.
