Educational objectives The essential aim of the teaching is to provide the students the useful concepts to acquired the basic knowledge of the discipline.

The capability in applying the acquired skills of the student will be examined by the means of clinical cases. They will be introduced during the teaching and they will focus on basic semiological aspects and differential diagnostic criteria. The students will be required to decide essential psychopharmacological treatments suitable for the clinical cases.
Prerequisites In order to understand the contents of the teaching and to reach the learning aims, it is necessary to have passed with success the 1st year exam “Psychology of Relationship”.

Furthermore, the knowledge of CNS physiopathology and psychopharmacology is required in order to understand the topics introduced in the lectures.

These points represent important prerequisites.
Teaching methods The teaching is divided into:

- lectures about the above mentioned topics and clinical cases.

- clinical training: from June to October n. 2 students will assist the psychiatric ward round and the consultation-liaison activity of the SPDC of Terni, for two days, from 8 am to 2 pm, always with the supervision of a tutor.

Learning verification modality The exam consists of an oral test. The oral test consists on an interview of about 15-30 minutes long aiming to accertain the knowledge level acquired by the student.

The test provides more questions to stimulate open with open answers. The test will take in consideration the pertinence of the acquired lexicon.
Extended program - The diagnostic system in Psychiatry

- The Psychiatric Semiotics (perceptual, thought, memory, attention and mood disorders, disorders of consciousnees, volition and psychomotricity, learning disabilities, personality, temperament and character disorders)

- Psychodynamic Bases (the Freudian topography of the mind, defense mechanisms, psychosexual development, psychotic structure, neurotic structure, borderline organization)
