Educational objectives
Knowledge:

- to know the main sources for the history of the artistic techniques

- to know the characteristics of the materials and the artistic techniques subject of the course

- to be able to use an appropriate technical language

Applying knowledge:

The course intends to offer to the students the cognitive tools, comparatively to the artistic techniques, to face consciously the study of the history of the art. At the end of the course the student will have to be able to control in critical way the contents and the acquired knowledge, being able to use them within the bounds of a theoretical discussion and also on the practical plan. It will must in practice to be able to describe the technical characteristics of the principal typology of artistic products.
Prerequisites
Particular prerequisites are not asked.

The course, for certain aspects, can be considered preparatory to the other disciplines historian artistic that deepen the medieval, modern and contemporary art. The acquired competences should to allow then a better comprehension of the main themes of the course of degree.

Learning verification modality
The examination consists in an oral proof (about 20-25 minutes), relative to the arguments dealt during the course and deepened on the cautious texts. The oral proof is aimed to verify the level of knowledge and of comprehension of the themes in object, as well as the ownership of the technical language and the expositive ability of the candidate
Extended program
Between art and craft: an introduction to the history of artistic techniques. The painting techniques, the techniques of sculpture, jewelry and enamels, printing. The first part of the course is focused on the relationship between art and technology. T thehe following lessons will offer an overview of the artistic techniques of the Middle Ages and the modern age. Particular attention will be given to techniques of painting and decorating book; the techniques of the sculpture (marble, wood, terracotta and bronze casting on procedures); goldsmithing techniques.
