Contents
This course is an approach to the Golden Age drama from different (historical, performative, ecdotic) perspectives. Theater will be viewed less as a literary phenomenon, than as a spectacular event. After a brief introduction to the theory of theater, the material conditions of representation at the time (scenic spaces, actors, entertainment organization, cultural and economic context), the transmission of the extant dramatic texts (printed and manuscript playtexts), the phases of the diachronic development of the Spanish Baroque theater since its beginning (1570) up to the late seventeenth century according to their genres and subgenres diversity and the evolution of the production of the main playwrights will be analyzed.

Educational objectives
Contents: The student will be familiar with the main playwrights of the Golden Age, the material conditions of the performancres and transmission of theatrical texts. In addition, he/she will learn the basics of the theory of theater.

Abilities: The student will be able to understand the structure and meaning of the Spanish Golden Age comedia; he/she will be able to carry out the dramatic and scenic metric analysis of a play.
Prerequisites
Students must know the essential outlines of Spanish literary history, particularly Golden Age literature.
Teaching methods
The course will be taught through face-to-face classes in which notions of theoretical and historical type will be given. Both written texts and visual elements (iconographic material and recordings of plays) will be analyzed. Classes will be taught in Spanish.

Learning verification modality
The exam will consist of a 30-minute oral test in which students must analyze fragments of works. In addition, the student must show he/she is familiar with Spanish literary and theatrical history. Accuracy in both Spanish and English/Italian will be assessed.
The first question will be freely chosen by the student and must be answered in Spanish. Next, the student may choose to follow the exam in Spanish, English or Italian.
haya explicado en clase. Además, el alumno deberá demostrar los conocimientos necesarios de historia literaria y teatral para situar a los autores y textos estudiados. Se evaluará la corrección de la expresión lingüística del alumno tanto en español como en italiano.
La primera pregunta será de libre elección del alumno y deberá ser respondida en español. Para las preguntas siguientes el alumno podrá seguir el examen en español o en italiano, sin que tal decisión influya en la nota final.
