- Objectives of the lessons:
Know the terms of the artistic debate in the post-war Italian historical-political context and the varied expressive forms beyond the combination of abstractionism-realism.
Knowing how to frame authors and works in relation to the trends. - Prerequisites

Oral examination
The test, lasting about 30 minutes, includes questions on the topics covered in class starting from the recognition of the works, and on the texts indicated in the bibliography.
The ability to organize, critically rework and expose the contents appropriately through an adequate reading of the works will be verified.

- Through the analysis of the visual and written sources, the artists, themes and iconographies that have marked the most significant expressions of the militant commitment of the artists in crucial phases of the history of the first half of the twentieth century will be explored.
In particular, the following topics will be dealt with:
Mexican Muralism
Public art and art of "fronda" in the years of Fascism
The Spanish Civil War in pictures
The second post-war period in Italy: not only realists and abstractionists
The 1950s between Europe and America
