- Educational objectives
- The aim of this teaching is to provide students with the methodological basis for the micropaleontological analysys. The course requires the basic knowledges of Paleontology . The course is subdivided in two parts: the theoric first part is necessary in order to acquire the analytic methods and the second part is dedicated to applied micropaleontology to both surface and borehole sedimentary successions. The stratigraphic correlation, biozonal analysys and paeoenvironmental reconstruction are the main objeectives and deep knowledges of geological topics are required.
- Prerequisites
- In order to better comprehend the main topics of integrated stratigraphy, the students that follow this course must have:
- knowledge of the fundamentals of geology;
- knowledge of the principle of stratigraphy;
- knowledge of the principle of palaeontology;
These preconditions are important for attending and not attending students. - Teaching methods
- Face to face
- Other information
- Supplementary educational activities:
Periodic assessments, seminars - Learning verification modality
- Oral exam. The exam consists of an oral test of about 30 minutes in order to understand the capability acquired by the student on theoretical and practical contents of the program. The exam will test the communication skills and the capability to corelate the theoric and practical knowledges. The exam will also investigate the capability of the student to corelate the theorical and practical notions and to know the relationships existing between Micropaleontology and Earth Sciences .
- Extended program
- Main microfossil groups. Index microfissils. Biostratigraphic units. Biostratigraphic scales and correlation. Biozonal analysis. Identification of the main palynomorphs and foraminifers. Palaeocological, palaeogeographical, palaeoclimatological and palaeoceonographic reconstructions. Micropaleontological applications to the environment and georesources.
