Contents
The course is divided into two parts of 18 hours each: the first part will have a laboratory nature and will aim at outlining a framework of the main methods and orientations about the teaching of Latin through the study of the manuals on the subject, which will be entrusted to groups of students /speakers. The second part will be based on the analysis of the second book of the Aeneid by Virgil, to show the various possibilities of its didactic use. Starting from this book, various types of teaching units, lessons and modules of Latin language and literature will be presented.

The critical edition of the II book of the Aeneid by Virgil, published by G.B. Conte (Teubner, 2019), will be provided in pdf format in unistudium.
Working and non-attending students must prepare two volumes of their choice from those indicated above and the entire second book of the Aeneid in Latin and must prepare a PPT on the didactic use of the indicated Aeneid book.
Educational objectives
The main educational objective of the course is that of preparing a suitable professional profile of the teacher for the competition classes of the upper secondary school which provide for the teaching of Latin. Therefore, the course contributes significantly to the educational objectives of the course of study and to its employment opportunities.
Specific goals of knowledge are: know various methods of didactic use of an author's text in Latin; know some of the main theoretical models for teaching Latin; know how to set up a lesson on Latin language and literature; know how to organize a learning unit of Latin language and literature; know how to complete a Latin language and literature module; know how to develop a program of Latin language and literature.
Prerequisites
In order to understand and know how to autonomously reuse the knowledge and concepts provided by the course, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of Latin literature from its origins to the late ancient age and a good metric and linguistic-grammatical preparation. The analysis of the text, which will be examined during the course, also requires proven translation skills from Latin into Italian.
Teaching methods
The teaching method includes lectures supported, if necessary, by multimedia tools and laboratory activities in groups identified using jigsaw methods.
There will also be presentations of books by their authors.
Other information
Students can acquire additional 3 credits (to be recognized among the 6 of further knowledge) by preparing a written report on a topic related to the course agreed with the teacher. The credits will be recognized following a positive evaluation of the report by the teacher.
The report must be a maximum of 10 pages, about 2000 characters; must use the bibliography critically and the text must be accompanied by notes.
Compensations and dispensatory measures for students with disabilities and/or with DSA can be agreed directly with the teacher.
Learning verification modality
Oral exam, with the aim of verifying the acquisition of knowledge relating to the course and the ability to plan and structure a lesson or a module or a teaching learning unit.
Disciplinary skills in Latin language and literature, argumentative rigor and language properties will be considered qualifying. The interview will last approximately 30 minutes.
In the event that the student intends to bring the exam forward to a year prior to the one scheduled in the study plan, it is recommended that he attend the cycle of lessons and take the exam in the first available session after the lessons have ended, in the therefore respecting the teaching planning semester.
