Profile of the programme
The Degree Programme provides students with the knowledge and methodologies required for scientific investigations in the chemical, biological and pharmacological fields as well as in pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmaceutical technology areas. The Degree Pogramme trains graduates capable of operating in the industrial pharmaceutical and health products sector, through advanced preparation in each sector of the process which, starting from the design of potentially active molecules, leads to synthesis, experimentation, formulation, registration, production, control and marketing of the drug.
Programme learning outcomes
Graduates of the Programme will have acquired knowledge on: - the chemical and biological disciplines necessary for the design of new biologically active molecules; - the identification of new drug targets; -the preparation and control of pharmaceutical formulations; - the national and supranational legislative contexts useful for the placing on the market of raw materials, medicines and health products. Graduates will have acquired the ability to apply: - protocols for quality control of drugs, medicines and health products - protocols aimed at verifying the efficacy and toxicity of biologically active molecules
Qualification requirements and regulations
Examination regulations and grading scale
Assessment is normally an oral or written exam. The grades for subject exams are measured in thirtieths (0-30 scale), the minimum grade is 18/30 and the maximum grade is 30/30. The maximum grade can be enhanced with “cum laude” (30 cum laude), in case of excellence. Grades are given by an exam commission of at least two teachers, whose President is the chair of the subject. The main exam sessions are held in January/February, March/April, June/July, September/October. Students may retake exams, if not passed. The University provides an ECTS Grading Table, which shows the actual distribution of the examination and final grades among students for each degree programme. The final degree evaluation is expressed in one hundred and tenths (0-110 scale), the minimum grade is 66/110 and the maximum grade is 110/110. The calculation of the final grade of each candidate takes into account the average of the grades obtained in the subject exams, as well as the quality of the work performed in research or in the final thesis which is discussed in public before an exam commission. “Cum laude” (110 cum laude) may be added to the maximum grade if the exam commission decides unanimously.
Obligatory or optional mobility windows
Students can spending a period abroad thanks to the numerous ERASMUS agreements that the University of Perugia has signed with the main European universities. It is possible to take exams, training internship or the internship aimed at preparing the degree thesis. All credits acquired by the students during the period abroad are fully used for the achievement of the qualification, without requiring the student for any further activity or learning verification.
Work-based learning
The Degree programme will provide: - Professional traineeships (6 months in a public or private pharmacy, of which no more than 3 months, in a hospital pharmacy or abroad) Training internships (2-14 CFU), activity that favors the link between training and work, can be carried out within the Administration, outside Administration, Companies or other Administrations, or abroad through the ERASMUS mobility programs.
Occupational profiles of graduates
The Degree Course provides graduates with the skills necessary to carry out their activity in the following professional fields: - pharmaceutical and chemical industry; - medical device industry; - cosmetic industry; - food and food supplements industry; - as Pharmacist in public and private Pharmacies, after having obtained the relevant professional qualification and in Hospital Pharmacies, following a specialization in Hospital Pharmacy; - monitoring of clinical trials - in the Regional and National Pharmaceutical Service, in agencies and regulatory bodies for medicines (for human and veterinary use) and health products - consulting, dissemination and distribution of medicines; - direction of chemical laboratories, chemical analysis and related certifications after obtaining the relevant professional qualification for the profession of Chemist, in accordance with the D.P.R. 5.6.2001 n. 328; - teaching in secondary school through public competition.
