Contents
The activity is distributed in eight days on the field. The topics investigated all the research areas of interest of the Earth Sciences: in particular geochemistry, applied geology, structural geology, geomorphology, mineralogy, paleontology, petrography, sedimentology and stratigraphy and volcanology.
Reference texts
Guides, topographic maps, thematic maps, all provided by the teachers via Unistudium.
Educational objectives
Acquire skills for recognition in the field of rock type, endogenous and exogenous landforms and processes. To correlate the theoretical knowledge assimilated during the courses of geological area during the first and the second year of the Bachelor’s degree. This approach allows to have a multidisciplinary framework of the studies case. Fill out, for some field trips, thematic maps and stratigraphic sections.
Compile a campaign booklet consistently.
Prerequisites
There are no preparatory teachings. It is recommended to have taken the exams of Physical Geography, Geology 1, Mineralogy and Paleontology and to attend the courses of Geomorphology and Geology 2.
Teaching methods
Recognition on the field of different lithologies on the outcrops; detection of deposits; geometries, sedimentary structures and analysis of facies. Detection of exogenous landforms and recognition of morphogenetic processes.
Other information
Excursions are subject to reservation on Unistudium platform. Absences - justified - allowed are maximum two.
Learning verification modality
In itinere: check at the end of each fieldtrip of the campaign notebook.
At the end of the fieldtrips:
the students, divided into groups, must present an excursion, chosen by the teacher, among those attended with an oral presentation of about 15 minutes. Absences must be recovered by studying and reporting on at least three scientific articles related to the topic of the excursion.
Extended program
Field trips in some areas of the Umbria-Marche Apennines and in the urban and periurban territory of Perugia.
Destinations and themes:
- Civita di Bagnoregio (Geomorphology & Mineralogy)
- Massicci Perugini, from the Quaternary to the Serie Umbro-Marchigiana (Structural Geology, Geomorphology, Sedimentology)
- Perugia, itinerary of Urban Geology (Applied Geology, Urban Geomorphology, Mineralogy, Paleontology, Petrography, Sedimentology)
