- Contents
- Instrumentation for observations of high-energy. Radiative processes and study of th ephysical properties of the galactic and extragalactic sources of X and gamma radiation.
- Reference texts
- High Energy Astrophysics, 3rd edition by M. S. Longair, Cambridge University Press
Introduction to High Energy Astrophysics by S. Rosswog & M. Brüggen, Cambridge University Press
Other texts and original papers suggested by the teacher. - Educational objectives
- After completing the course, students acquire an overview of the methods and instruments for the detection of X-ray and Gamma (both from the ground and from space) as well as the knowledge of the physical properties of the various populations of galactic sources / extragalactic radiation of high energy. Students will also be able to apply the knowledge of classical, relativistic and quantum physics to astrophysical problems.
- Prerequisites
- For a complete understanding of the course the student should have successfully followed all the basic courses of the first year of the LM in Physics. A general knowledge of Astrophysics would be useful.
- Teaching methods
- Lectures.

- No further information
- Learning verification modality
- ral examination. Verification of the knowledge gained in the instrumental field and the emission mechanisms, as well as in galactic and extra-galactic astrophysics of the high energies. The candidate is required to connect appropriately the various topics developed during the course and, in particular, to relate the high energy emission of the various source classes to the emission mechanisms that were discussed at the beginning of the course . Critical analysis of subjects of absolute importance to the modern astrophysics of high energies and calculating physical quantities are also required, based on the knowledge gained in the course.
