- The focus of the course will be Young Adult's Literature in English, with a specific focus on Mark Twain's novel "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". The novel should be studied thoroughly, and it will be juxtaposed to other texts considered as children or YAL literature. Among these: "The Wizard of OZ", "Tarzan of the apes", "Moby Dick", "The Last of the Mohicans", "Frankenstein", "Alice in Wonderland", "Little Women".
- Reference texts
- Mark Twain, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" in the latest available Norton edition, that can be borrowed from the UniPG library. David Lodge, "The Art of Fiction" and excerpts from YAL or children's literature that will be provided by the instructor at the beginning of the course.
- Educational objectives
- This course offers the possibility to study classic Angloamerican literature with a specific focus on cognitive and pedagogic processes. Students are supposed to gain knowledge of: 1) history and criticism of 19th century literature in English; 2) textual analysis of fiction; 3) pedagogical features of literature; 4) themes and styles of Young Adult Literature; 5) Connections between literature and cognitive science.

- Traditional classes, audiovisual material, seminars, self-study, interaction between teacher and students.

- Learning verification modality
- An oral exam will be held at the end of the course. The length of the examination will depend on the students' response to the instructor's requests.
