Contents The present course is devoted to offer a basic but comprehensive knowledge to understand the field of Clinical Psychology, especially with respect to: the roles of the clinical psychologist; clinical and diagnostic reasoning; the basics of clinical consultations and interviews; a basic knowledge of psychological assessment; the main study designs in clinical psychology.

Educational objectives The main aim of the present course is to offer a basic knowledge of conceptual, theoretical, and methodological aspects of the clinical psychology field, its interventions, and its applications in clinical practice.
The course objectives are defined as follows concerning the following domains:
Knowledge and understanding skills:
To enable the student to become acquainted with the basic principles of clinical psychology and the related areas of development, including its historical-conceptual roots and its main clinical applications.
Application of knowledge: to enable the student to acquire practice-methodological skills in the clinical, diagnostic, and assessment fields.
Autonomy of judgment: the student will be able to integrate knowledge acquired at a theoretical level with the specificity of concrete cases for understanding the individuals' psychological functioning.
Communication: the student will acquire a specific terminology that will enable them to communicate with specialists (and non-specialists) in the clinical field and/or in an interdisciplinary ways.
Ability to learn: the student will develop the competence to study independently and to research specialized materials, including through the use of bibliographic research databases.
Prerequisites To properly understand and apply the topics addressed in the present course, the student should have a very basic knowledge of the main psychological theories of human functioning.
This basic requirement is valid for all students.
Teaching methods Teaching activities will be carried out through in-person lectures along with the sharing of multimedia materials; Group discussions and activities on clinical illustrations; and invited experts' seminars and workshops (if possible)
Other information During the course, the student can check the sharing of the course's materials and any announcements/notices from the teacher on UniStudium.
Learning verification modality In order to sustain the exam, all students (attending and non-attending, working students, students with disabilities and/or DSA) are requested to consider the abovementioned reference texts.

There is a final assessment consisting of a written examination lasting (as a whole) 60 minutes divided into two parts:
- Part One: 30 multiple-choice questions on two mandatory books (20 minutes)
- Part two: 3 open-ended questions on the mandatory books (one) and the book chosen by the student (two) (40 minutes)

Evaluation criteria:
- Closed questions: 1 point for a correct answer and 0 points for a wrong or missing answer. Wrongs answers will not receive any penalities.

- Open questions: each question is evaluated from 0 to 10 points (with an overall evaluation in thirtieths); assessment criteria: (a) Focus and relevance of the answer (b) Coherence of the answer
(c) Pertinence of the answer

Final assessment/result of the exam: average of the two evaluations obtained on closed and open questions. This written modality aimed at evaluating the level of knowledge and comprehension aquired by the student on the main topic of the course.

Students with disabilities and/or DSA will have up to a maximum of 30% more time to complete the exam and may use any compensatory tools. For further information on support services for students with disabilities and/or DSA visit http://www.unipg.it/disabilita-e-dsa.

If the student intends to take the exam a year before the year scheduled in the study plan, it is recommended that they attend the cycle of lessons and take the exam in the first useful call after the lessons have ended, thus respecting the semester of the teaching schedule.
Extended program The topics addressed in the present course aimed at introducing the student to the following main themes of the clinical psychology field: a) a psychological understanding of the human functioning; b) the main diagnostic approaches; c) basic theoretical and practical aspects of the clinical consultation; d) the main tools for the psychological assessment; e) clinical context and main interventions for the clinical psychologist.
Accordigly, the couse will address the following contents:
1) Main theoretical models in clinical psychology;
2) The clinical reasoning;
3) The clinical diagnosis and the main diagnostic approaches (DSM-5-TR, ICD-11, PDM-2)
4) Clinical consultations and interviews;
5) Psychological testing and psychological assessment;
6) The roles of the clinical psychologist;
7) Clinical applications across different settings in clinical practice.
8) The main research designs in clinical psychology.
