- Using an interdisciplinary and diachronic approach, the course will analyse the role played by territorial inequalities and divergences in the history of Italy. From the birth of the Kingdom of Italy to the present day, territorial events have played a fundamental role in the construction of the country and its society. If in an initial phase the political-economic debate focused on national dualism and the correlated southern question, later, during the season of accomplished industrialisation, attention shifted to the imbalances arising from the divide between urban and rural areas, between the centre and the peripheries of large cities, between regions. Even in more recent phases, the existence of acute territorial disparities has led to the development of corrective measures such as the national strategy for inland areas (SNAI) up to the current proposals on differentiated autonomy.
