Language of instruction
Knowledge of definitions and fundamental algorithms of geodesy and cartography. Reading and proper use of modern maps (both in print and digital), with particular reference to the technical maps produced by Italian mapping agencies (IGM, Land Regions, Cadastre). Use and characteristics of the main instruments for geodetic surveying. Terrestrial and GPS satellite survey techniques. Knowledge of fundamental concepts and algorithms for statistical observations processing.
Reference texts
Barzaghi R., Pinto L., Pagliari D. - Elementi di Topografia e Trattamento delle Osservazioni - Edizioni Città Studi Milano.
Handouts and other teaching materials available by the teacher on the website: http://labtopo.ing.unipg.it and on library of "Polo di Ingegneria"
Educational objectives
It is expected that the students achieve the objectives inherent to Dublin descriptors 1 (theoretical and methodological knowledge) and 2 (ability to correctly apply the theoretical knowledge) with reference to the content of the course and in particular:

Knowledge and use of the main coordinate systems of Italian and international cartography. Proper and coordinated employ of traditional and online maps (IGM, Regional Technical Maps, cadastral maps, online maps and digital globes). Basic understanding of the tools and techniques of terrestrial and satellite surveying.
In order to understand and learn how to apply most of the techniques described in the course it is necessary a basic knowledge of the following topics:

- geometry and mathematics 1;

- practical computer knowledges: Text editor, CAD, spreadsheet, online searches;

- basics of English language.
Teaching methods
The course is organized as follows:

Lectures on the topics of the course.

Practice in the classroom and laboratory assisted by the teacher using computer methodologies related to the course.

Exercises outside on the use of measuring instruments and GNSS surveying.
Other information
Due to the practical character of the module, lectures frequency is advisable.
Learning verification modality
The verification of the educational objectives of teaching (examination) consists in an oral exam.

The test consists in a discussion lasting no more than 1 hour aimed at verifying : i) the level of theoretical and methodological knowledge of the course contents (Dublin descriptor 1), ii) the ability to correctly apply the theoretical knowledge (Dublin descriptor 2), iii) the ability of independent judgment in formulating appropriate comments on possible alternatives (Dublin descriptor 3), iv) the ability to expose with a proper language the course contents and summarize the results of the application of the theories studied (Dublin descriptor 4).
