Contents The course aims to introduce students to the knowledge of the main psychological and social reactions that characterize emergency contexts. To this end, attention will be given to the operational setting and the main consequences and types of psychosocial intervention in the pre-, during, and post-emergency phases. In addition, the most common reactions to disasters by the families of victims, emergency workers, and the community, in general, will be explored.

Educational objectives The main objective of the course is to provide students with knowledge and skills on the main reactions and difficulties faced by the individual, rescuers, and the community in emergencies. The course objectives are defined as follows concerning the following domains:- Knowledge and understanding skills: to enable the student to attain the fundamental knowledge to understand the main reactions in emergencies;- Application of knowledge: to enable the student to apply this knowledge to recognize situations of potential vulnerability in emergencies;- Autonomy of judgment: the student will be able to integrate the knowledge acquired at a theoretical level with the specificity of concrete cases that he/she may encounter in potential work contexts;- Communication: the student will acquire a specific terminology that will enable him/her to communicate with a specialist (and non-specialist) interlocutors in the sector and/or in an interdisciplinary manner;- Learning skills: the student will develop the competence to study independently and research specialist material in the sector also and through the use of bibliographic research in sector databases.
Teaching methods Lectures (some of them in TD), discussion of emergencies and post-disaster interventions on a mainly national level.

Learning verification modality There is only one final assessment. The objective of the test is to verify the level of knowledge and understanding reached by the student on the theoretical and methodological contents indicated in the program. The assessment includes an oral test.
