Contents
The course aims to offer the student the ability to identify natural resources underground, interpreting a geophysical anomaly through modeling methodologies. The course will focus on gravimetric, magnetic and thermal geophysical methods.
The course includes practical exercises in both measurements (thermal and porosity) and computer exercises through the use of modeling programs.
Reference texts
Geophysics for the Mineral Exploration Geoscientist. Michael Dentith, Stephen T. Mudge. Cambridge University press.
Lecture notes.
Educational objectives
The aim of the course is to provide to the student useful tools to investigate the subsoil through the analysis of gravimetric, magnetic and thermal anomalies. The course will provide the tools to be able to identify a georesource underground and evaluate its actual potential. The methodologies for measuring the thermophysical properties of rocks, which are important for evaluating the geothermal capacity of an area, will also be taught.
Prerequisites
In order to be able to understand and apply the majority of the techniques described within the Course, it is important to know the basic concept of Physics and Mathematics.
Teaching methods
Face to face and pratical training. Measurements of thermo-physical properties will be also carried out in the laboratory.

Learning verification modality
The exam consist of a oral exam aiming to ascertain the knowledge level and the understanding capability acquired by the student on theoretical and methodological contents as indicated on the program.
Extended program
Gravimetric and magnetic method, grav-mag modeling; Geothermal measurements and modeling, lithosphere geotherm, thermo-physical properties of rocks, thermal modeling.
