- A brief history of eyewear. Frame materials. Lens materials and geometries. Aberrations. Determination of the optical center and measurement of the dioptric power. Prescription of ophthalmic lenses and use of the main optometric instruments. Outline of mechanical instrumentation and processing phases. Different types of lenses and their mounting. CE certifications and declaration of conformity.

- Educational objectives
- Provide skills and knowledge of the characteristics and properties of the optical aids used for the compensation of refractive defects of the eye. The main skills transmitted by the course concern the creation of corrective devices and the verification of compliance with European and international standards and compliance regulations.

- Oral test to ascertain: i) the ability to understand the theoretical contents of the course (Dublin descriptor 1), ii) the ability to expose and correctly apply theoretical knowledge (Dublin descriptor 2), iii) Ability to autonomously formulate appropriate judgments and observations on possible alternative model (Dublin descriptor 3), iv) the ability in effective and pertinent written communication (Dublin 4 descriptor).
