Specific admission requirements
Formal Requirements Certificate of completion of Italian upper secondary school or equivalent foreign qualification
Evaluation of specific subject knowledge on entry
Verification of the knowledge required for the attendance of the course of study through a compulsory evaluation test of indicative and non-selective nature; if the test is not passed, the student will be given additional educational obligations and will be granted with: • alignment courses, • tutoring, • online alignment courses, • study of additional texts indicated by the course of study. Foreign students are required to take a test to verify their proficiency of the Italian language, except Erasmus Incoming students, Exchange Students and students in mobility as per the Cooperation Agreement
Profile of the programme
The course trains graduates who, in addition to a solid biological preparation, possess skills that are useful for the technical-economic management of livestock and the quality of animal products. The course is divided into a first level with basic subjects (physics, mathematics, biometrics, chemistry, biochemistry, biology and genetics), in a second level with disciplines related to animal production (anatomy and physiology of zootechnical species, genetic improvement, veterinary microbiology and general pathology) and eventually in a further professional level (agronomy and forage farming, agricultural economics and policy, animal husbandry and nutrition, livestock and production hygiene).
Programme learning outcomes
The graduate in Animal Production will be able to interpret the natural, production and technological processes relating to the zootechnical system and the chain of products of animal origin; the graduate will know how to process and interpret experimental data, apply analytical and microbiological techniques; the graduate will be able to manage intensive, extensive livestock farms and agro-livestock farms in aspects related to genetics, reproduction, nutrition, animal health and well-being, hygiene and prophylaxis, production quality and safety, plant engineering, cultivation systems, human and economic resources, economic results; the grduate will be able to manage and control the processes of the production chain of products of animal origin.
Qualification requirements and regulations
Admission to the final test for the achievement of the qualification will require that the student has acquired all the other educational credits foreseen in the study plan. The final test is public: it consists of the multimedia presentation and the discussion in front of the appropriate commission of a written, experimental or compilation paper, prepared with the guidance of a teacher on a topic of significant interest for animal production.
Examination regulations and grading scale
Exams take place according to criteria established by the single courses: the grade is out of thirty; the commission is chaired by the teacher. Evaluation of the final exam is in one hundred and tenths and takes into account the student's career too
Obligatory or optional mobility windows
The CdL promotes training periods at foreign universities and institutions, ensuring the full recognition of the credits obtained in the Erasmus + mobility program or the preparation of the degree thesis during the Erasmus Trainesheep program.
Work-based learning
The practical traineeship lasts between 6 and 9 ECTS and must take place in companies, public or private bodies, professional orders or colleges. Before starting the traineeship, the student presents the training project, approved by a teacher-tutor; at the end of the traineeship period, during which the student is supervised by company tutor, a report on the experience and a presentation in English must be prepared.
