Tennessee Williams's "A Streetcar Named Desire" from the stage to the screen.
The part of the course taught by prof. Vallone (2 cfu) will analyze the negotiation of cultural, social, linguistic and gender borders in twenty-century American literature, focusing on Sandra Cisneros's The House on Mango Street.
Reference texts
Tennessee Williams, "A Streetcar Named Desire", any available edition. The Library of America edition is highly suggested. Elia Kazan's 1951 film is considered a text for analysis. Volker Schlondorff's "Death of a Salesman".

Educational objectives
Students are supposed to gain knowledge of themes, structure, and context for Williams's play, as well as of its passage from the stage to the big screen.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required.
Teaching methods
Traditional classes will be offered, together with audiovisual materials.
