Educational objectives
The course offers an expansion of knowledge of the visual arts in relation to the most recent trends and dynamics that govern - on the international scene - their production, promotion, market and collecting.
Through a targeted selection of authors and works, appropriate methodological tools for analysis, understanding and critical evaluation are provided.

In particular, the training objectives will be:

- Knowledge
Learn about the major protagonists and main languages ¿¿of visual arts between the 20th and 21st centuries.

Know the dynamics, roles and spaces on which the international art system is based from the second half of the twentieth century up to the latest trends.

Capacity
Knowing how to recognize and frame authors, works and phenomena in relation to exhibition contexts, public and critical reception, and the role of clients and collectors.

Knowing how to analyze and communicate formal typologies, organizational models, promotion channels, methods of fruition and the dynamics of the global art market with a good knowledge of specific vocabulary.

Skills
Acquire appropriate methods and adequate judgment also as a function of independent research and in-depth paths.
Prerequisites

Knowledge of the foundations of twentieth century art history.

Learning verification modality
At the end of the course, the student will have to take an oral exam.

The test, lasting approximately 30 minutes, includes questions on the topics covered in class and discussion on the texts indicated in the bibliography.

The following will be checked and evaluated in equal measure: knowledge of the main languages ¿¿and artistic trends between the mid-20th and 21st centuries, the ability to contextualize artists and works, the ability to organize, critically rework and appropriately expose the contents.

Extended program
At the origins of the modern contemporary art system: brief introduction in historical perspective on the relationship between artistic tendencies, exhibition occasions and the role of collectors.
The art market: typology and defining elements of the commercial value of the artistic product from the 1950s to the 1960s.
Trending exhibitions in public museums.
New exhibition spaces: from the artist's studio to international fairs.
The role of major collectors.
The relationship of the public with contemporary art: spaces and roles of communication, criticism and publishing.
The times of art: production, use, duration.
The new frontiers of artistic production: immateriality of the work of art and "overcoming the limit".
