For the request, students are invited to ask the teacher, who will put them in contact with the Disability and/or DSA Department Coordinator (prof. Alessandra Di Pilla: alessandra.dipilla@unipg.it) - Educational objectives
- The main objective of the course is the acquisition of skills in the field of Spanish literature from 18th to 20th centuries, also from a comparative perspective, and of the methodologies necessary to work on literary Spanish texts. Within the three-year degree course in Foreign Languages and Cultures, the course constitutes the first phase of an in-depth course aimed at providing a solid knowledge and understanding of the Spanish literature from its origins to the present day.
The expected learning outcomes are defined according to the European parameters described by the five Dublin descriptors:
1) Knowledge and understanding: general knowledge and understanding of the historical and cultural context of the period from the 18th century to the Generation of 27, with particular attention to the most significant works and authors; acquisition of the adequate theoretical and methodological tools to analyze and interpret the main literary texts (theater and prose in particular) of the considered period;
2) Applying knowledge and understanding: the student will be able to recognize the historical-literary framework of reference, the different literary genres to which the works in the program can be ascribed and their thematic and stylistic peculiarities; from a comparative perspective, the student will be able to activate critical approaches and interdisciplinary connections;
3) Making judgements: the student will be able to develop, with appropriate methods and tools, a critical reflection on the topics covered in the course;
4) Communication skills: the student will be able to present the acquired knowledge with a clear exposition and using the vocabulary and terminology appropriate;
5) Learning skills: the student will have developed the skills necessary to expand, even independently, his knowledge of Spanish literature and to identify study and learning methods and strategies useful for achieving the educational objectives set by the entire degree course in Foreign Languages and Cultures. - Prerequisites
- In order to be able to understand and apply methods and notions discussed within the course, students are required to know the fundamentals of literary criticism and critical tools.
This precondition is valid both for attending and not attending students. - Teaching methods
- Seminary style taught classes. The lessons will be partly in Italian and partly in Spanish language, with the use of powerpoint slides. An adequate space will be dedicated to the analysis of the selected, in order to familiarize the students with the methodological and critical instruments used for the analysis of literary texts. Further learning materials for in-depth study will be supplied through the UniStudium platform, where the students will also be able to find all the information concerning the course. The courses will be, whether possible, integrated with extracurricular activities like seminars, transversal and multidisciplinary, given by the professor in charge of the course or by guest professors.
- Other information
- Students with disabilities and/or SLD: for any information on University services, consult the page https://lettere.unipg.it/home/disabilita-e-dsa and contact the Disability and/or DSA Department Coordinator (prof. Alessandra Di Pilla: alessandra.dipilla@unipg.it).
- Learning verification modality
- Oral final exam. The speaking test will consist of a conversation which will last about half an hour and which will also concern the texts, read and commented in the classroom; it will be aimed at checking both the comprehension and the ability to apply the knowledge acquired during the course. The conversation will be in Italian. Both the students “in corso” (students who have passed all their due exams within the prescribed period of time) and the “fuori corso” (students who have not passed all their due exams within the prescribed period of time) will be able to access the test only from the first available session immediately after the end of the course. All students will have to book the exam through the University's Segreteria SOL within the due dates. Students who have not booked their tests will not be admitted to the exam, nor we will accept any bookings via email or after the due dates. In case of “fuori corso” students, there will be two extra exam sessions apart from the ones allowed for the students “in corso” (in the months of December and April).
Students with disabilities and/or with SLD who, having completed regular accreditation through SOL, have obtained access to University services, can apply for compensatory tools, dispensatory measures and inclusive technologies ensured by law, to be requested and agreed with the teacher well in advance of tests and exams. For general information, consult the page https://www.unipg.it/disabilita-e-dsa and contact the Disability and/or SLD Department Coordinator (prof. Alessandra Di Pilla: alessandra.dipilla@unipg.it). - Extended program
- After a general introduction on the historical, cultural and literary context, the course will focus on the literary production of the period and its main literary movements. Through the reading, analysis and commentary of a selection of works, we will explore the main trends and the most important authors of each of them. Theoretical-methodological notions will be introduced before the analysis of the texts. We will also read and analyze short essays.
More specifically, the course will cover the following topics:
The historical, cultural and literary Spanish context of 18th to 20th centuries. The Enlightenment period. Feijoo. Cadalso. The genre of the fables: Samaniego. Leandro Fernández Moratín and the drama. Romanticism. Espronceda. Larra. Zorrilla. Bécquer. The realist novel. Galdós. The Modernism of Rubén Darío. Generation of 98. Unamuno. The Avant-Garde movements. Generation of 27. García Lorca. - Obiettivi Agenda 2030 per lo sviluppo sostenibile
