- General structure and organization of plant organisms. The plant cell. Plant tissues: meristems and mature tissues. Morphology and anatomy of stem, leaf, and root. Morphological adaptations to different environmental conditions. Vegetative and sexual reproduction. Principles of Systematic and Taxonomy. The most important groups of plant organisms: Algae, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, Spermatophyta.

- This course is part of the basic teachings in degree course in Biological Science. The main aim is to provide students with the basis knowledge about structure organization and physiology of plant organisms, their development and reproduction, as well as their evolution. At the end of the course the students should have understood the fundamental role of the photosynthetic organisms in maintaining life on Earth.
- Prerequisites
- The study of plant cell is an extensively covered topic in this course. In order to successfully follow the course, it is useful that the students have successfully passed the Cytology and Histology exam.
- Teaching methods
- The course is organized in lectures on all expected topics. Attendance at classes is optional but strongly recommended.

- Learning verification modality
- The exam consists of an oral test based on questions on some topics of the teaching program. Its length is about 30 minutes. The test aims to ascertain the knowledge level and the understanding capability acquired by the student about the theoretical program contents. The oral exam will also test the student communication skills, language correctness, and autonomy in the organization and exposure of the theoretical topics.

- General structure and organization of plant organisms. The plant cell: in-depth study of cell wall, plastids, vacuole, nucleus. Plant tissues: meristems and cellular differentiation; the mature tissues systems: epidermis, parenchyma, collenchyma and sclerenchyma, secretory tissues, xylem and phloem. Morphology and anatomy of stem, leaf, and root. Morphological adaptations to different environmental conditions. The vegetative and sexual reproduction. Principles of Systematic and Taxonomy. The most important groups of plant organisms: Algae, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, Spermatophyta. Reproductive organs: flower, fruit, seed.
