Contents Study of the main fungi and parasites responsible for human diseases: epidemiology, mode of transmission, pathological processes generated by them and prevention and control of subsequent diseases.

Educational objectives Provide the student with knowledge on the main fungi and parasites responsible for pathologies and on the laboratory techniques most used for the diagnosis of mycosis and parasitosis.

Learning verification modality Oral exam lasting approximately 20 minutes divided into two questions relating to the topics described in the program. A third question on minimum essential knowledge may be asked in case of an unsatisfactory answer to the two main questions.
Final grade: arithmetic average of the grades relating to the individual courses. Structural and functional characteristics of fungi.
Main pathogenic fungi responsible for infections in humans.
Main techniques used in the diagnosis of fungal infections.

Parasitology
Morphological characteristics, mechanisms of pathogenic action, diagnostic aspects, prevention, treatment and control of the main parasites.
Main protozoa responsible for blood and tissue, intestinal, genitourinary infections.
Main Helminths pathogenic to humans

Educational objectives
To provide the students of Biomedical Laboratory Techniques Course the knowledge of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology able to guarantee the skills and competences required to achieve the essential levels of professional service.
The knowledge of the more relevant bacterial, viral, fungal, and protozoarian infections, and the laboratory practice and skill needed to isolate and identify the etiological agents of infections

The assessment of the Special Microbiology module is integrated with the contents of the other modules of the "Microbiological Sciences 2" course.

Normally the student is asked 1/2 questions per module and the final grade is given by an overall evaluation of the performance in the individual modules
