- The course will look at two concepts that are very close at the heart of the critique of modern subjectivism that are the theme of this course. The concept of “Over-soul” and "Übermensch” will be analysed. These two concepts, in the echo of Schopenhauer's genius, take on in Emerson's doctrine (which helps to understand the German's thought as an assiduous reader of the former) not the indication of a "someone”, of a “super-man” who one does not know who he should be, but of a Over Soul and a nature to which we belong, of a "Over-man", by which one indicates a level of consciousness where one opens up to the abyssality of spirit and nature in Emerson and to the Eternal Return in Nietzsche.

- The evaluation will be realized in the form of the oral final examination in which the examiner will consider:a)that the students have the articulated and detailed knowledge of the philosophical tradition – object of the courseb)that the students have developed the critical capacity of the interdisciplinary interconnection;c)that are able to communicate adequately and analyze the topics being studied during the course. There will be only one oral exam that will include also a reading and a text comprehension that is the object of study. The exam will be particularly accurate and will last about an hour. The final assessment of the examination will take into account all the objectives of the teaching course and all the exam parts will be judged in the same way. Great importance will be given also to the communication skills of the candidate.
In the instance where the student intends to take the examination in a year earlier than the one scheduled in the study plan, it is recommended to attend the cycle of lectures and to take the examination in the first useful call after the lectures have ended, thus respecting the semester in which the course is scheduled.

- A perspectives of the philosophy of otherness and critique of the subject in the philosophy of the 19th century and which have greatly influenced contemporary thought.
The course will attempt to read the vision of man, morality and history in the work of Emerson and Nietzsche. For the American philosopher, the individual's connection with nature, with the Spirit, with the divine, can ensure the achievement of an individual strength recognisable by the community, stimulating heroism, the achievement of political and social improvement. it is the strength of the Over-soul: the apex and characterising strength of man himself, of the individual, who expresses his genius in it. In the Over-soul, it is not about escaping the world, the truth, but about immersing oneself in the necessity of spirit and nature. Over soul, it does not identify with a single above all others, but is about finding oneself in an elevated level of consciousness in which the depth of the Spirit and the real appears. This is why we will compare with Nietzsche's "Over-man", which in the echo of Schopenhauer's genius, takes on Emerson's doctrine, which helps to understand the German's thought: not of a someone, who one does not know who he should be, but of an "Übermensch", "over man", by which one indicates a level of consciousness where one opens up to the abyssality of the Eternal Return, just as the American opens up to the beyond expressed in nature. - Obiettivi Agenda 2030 per lo sviluppo sostenibile
