- The main aim of this course is to provide students with basic knowledge of biology (from the cell to the organismal level) and ecology. Students will acquire fundamental knowledge about structure and metabolism of the prokaryote and eukaryote cell; morphology and anatomy of plants and animals; reproductive biology and plant and animal biodiversity. Furthermore, they will acquire basic knowledge about the living interactions, among themselves and with the environment.
- Prerequisites
- None
- Teaching methods
- The course is organized into lectures. Attendance at classes is optional but strongly recommended.
- Other information
- Supplementary teaching material will be available in the UniStudium web page.
- Learning verification modality
- The exam consists of an oral test based on questions on some topics of the teaching program. Its length is about 30 minutes. The test aims to ascertain the knowledge level and the understanding capability acquired by the student about the program contents. The oral exam will also test the student communication skills, language correctness and autonomy in the topic presentation.
Please, refer to the web page https://www.unipg.it/disabilita-e-dsa about information on support services for students with disabilities or SLD. - Extended program
- The cell as constituent unit of living organisms. Molecular constituents in the cell: proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids. Structural organization of the prokaryote and eukaryote cell. The energy flow through living organisms: cellular metabolism, cellular respiration, photosynthesis. Higher biological organization levels in plants and animals: tissues, organs and systems.
Nucleid acids and gene expression. Cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis. Sexual (and asexual) reproduction in plants and animals. Mendel's principles of heredity. General characteristics of the main evolutionary lines in prokaryotes and eukaryotes (bacteria, protista, plants, animals, fungi).
Life interactions. Ecosystem, environment, niche, habitat. Populations and growth models. Trophic chains. Biogeochemical cycles. Biomes. - Obiettivi Agenda 2030 per lo sviluppo sostenibile
