- Contents
- Introduction to physical quantities and the experimental method. Kinematics and dynamics of the material point. Work and Energy. Fluids. Elements of Thermodynamics. Electromagnetic waves and geometric optics. Elements of Electromagnetism.
- Reference texts
- Any university level physics textbook such as: Walker, Fondamenti di Fisica (Casa Editrice Pearson); Serway-Jewett, Fondamenti di Fisica (Casa Editrice EdiSES)
- Educational objectives
- Provide the student with basic information on the main topics of classical physics with particular reference to the ‘physical sense’. Students must acquire the ability to reason logically and critically analyze what they will deal with in subsequent courses. They must be able to ask themselves the right questions in order to deal with unexpected situations and to avoid making gross errors from a logical-practical point of view. Ability to solve exercises and problems of basic physics.
- Prerequisites
- Basic notions of algebra and geometry, manipulation of numerical and literal expressions, solution of first and second degree equations, notions of trigonometry.
- Teaching methods
- Frontal lessons with the aid of slide projections and films.
- Learning verification modality
- The assessment method consists of a written test with simple exercises and multiple choice questions. Each exercise and question is assigned a score based on its difficulty. The final evaluation is given by the sum of the scores obtained in each individual exercise and question. The test as a whole allows to ascertain the level of knowledge and mastery of the fundamental concepts and in the application of the same in Physics problems.
