- Knowledge of medieval written sources produced in Italy with regard to forms and places of production and conservation; knowledge of the main historiographic tools; knowledge of the main repertoires of the sources of medieval history (D.D.1); use of the specific lexicon of the subject (D.D.2); ability to formulate questions and solve problems through the interpretation of the topics studied (D.D.3).
- Prerequisites
- Students are required to take the Medieval History exam during the three-year degree course.
- Teaching methods
- Frontal lessons on all topics of the course, with reading and commenting of sources in Latin or in translation. If it will be possible, lectures will be also provided at the State Archives of Perugia for direct knowledge of the medieval historical sources.
- Other information
- Attendance is optional but strongly recommended.

- The exam includes a final oral test, which consists of a discussion-interview on the topics covered during the course and in-depth on the recommended text.
- Extended program
- The subject of the course is the structure of medieval written sources. In particular, the written sources of the cities (the legislation, the resolutions of the municipal councils, the deeds of jurisdiction, the financial registers) and the private writings will be analyzed.
