Contents | The agricultural tractor. Fertilization machines. Harvesting machines and storage of products. The milking system. Feeding and waste systems |
Reference texts | Papers distributed during the lessons |
Educational objectives | The student must have knowledge about the structure of agricultural machinery and the main work organs and how these interact with the soil and crops. He must also know the individual components of the company plants (feeding, milking and waste plants), their location in the farm, their purpose and the problems relating to their malfunction. In this way he must be able to recognize where to intervene in the system if it does not function properly. The student must know the operating machines in the field used for the production of animal feeds and know how to indicate their purposes, therefore knowing how to choose the most suitable machines for certain operations. |
Prerequisites | There are no preparatory exams, however the knowledge of basic concepts of subjects such as mathematics and physics is recommended, in order to facilitate the understanding and learning of the course contents |
Teaching methods | The teaching method used will consist of classroom lectures, in which the topics covered will be illustrated. In this regard, lecture notes will be distributed by the teacher to facilitate learning. Lectures will be interspersed with exercises, in which the illustrated subjects will be resumed, which will be explained with reference to practical cases, which will also be solved with the use of numerical examples, in order to convey to the student a greater mastery of the topics. |
Other information | Other informations at teacher e_mail |
Learning verification modality | The learning assessment will be conducted with an oral exam lasting about 40 minutes, aimed to establish the level of knowledge of the subject. There will be at least two questions about agricultural machinery and three questiones about the plantes present in the livestock farm |
Extended program | The agricultural tractor: classification and characteristics. Power, grip and traction of the tractor. Fertilization machines. Harvesting machines and storage of products. Types of milking parlors. The milking system: features and components. The milk cooling: tools and techniques. The milking robot. Feeding systems of cattle, pigs and sheep. The main waste removal and treatment systems, aerobic and anaerobic digestion. The composting of waste |

Contents | Elements of cartography for the representation and analysis of territorial and landscape systems. Collaborative maps for the enhancement of animal production Components of building systems for animal production. Criteria for the insertion of agro-zootechnical buildings in the landscape. Definition of the internal configuration of the main building units with the identification, based on productive needs and animal welfare, of functional design solutions for the breeding of the main species of zootechnical interest. Equipment of the technological system of the building units in terms of systems and equipment to achieve effective operational solutions, including waste management, in companies with breeding. Building units for extensive breeding systems. |
Reference texts | At the beginning of the lessons, the lecturer will provide information about the bibliographic material. |
Educational objectives | The main objective of the module is to provide students with basic technical knowledge concerning the construction, systems, and equipment of livestock farms in relation to users, the territory, animal welfare, and sustainability. The acquired knowledge will be useful in supporting the design and management of companies operating at various levels in the sector. The main skills will be useful for the identification, evaluation, and implementation of functional and operational solutions that make up the building systems, both for production and service, that are used in livestock farming for animal production. |
Prerequisites | There are no preparatory exams for this course. |
Teaching methods | The course includes theoretical and practical lessons, research and collaborative presentations, the creation of collaborative maps, screening and discussion of case study videos, seminars by industry experts, and possible company visits. |
Other information | For any further information, please contact the lecturer via e-mail also for a possible meeting. The lecturer receives at the LANDSCAPE and RURAL BUILDINGS Research Unit of the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Sciences at the Abbey of San Pietro in Perugia. |
Learning verification modality | A final oral exam will be aimed at ascertaining knowledge and abilities about the topics covered in the theoretical and practical lessons of the course. |
