Contents	The program is dedicated to analyzing health and family issues from a sociological perspective. In particular, the following aspects will be addressed: the historical and sociological evolution of the concept of health and its multidimensionality; social inequalities in health; narratives and cultures of health and illness; citizen participation in health; the medicalization of life; the quantification and digitalization of health; prediction and prevention; the "plural" family, in its historical, social, and cultural variations; gender structure of the family; aging and caregiving duties within the family; and challenges facing families in contemporary society.
Reference texts	A. Maturo, Il primo libro di sociologia della salute, Einaudi, Torino 2024. :On the sociology of the family, study materials will be distributed during the lessons, using the Unistudium platform.
Educational objectives	By the end of the course, students should have adequately understood the social dimensions of health and family issues and the main evolutionary dynamics of these phenomena. This is intended to enable them to practice their future professional activities more knowledgeably and competently.
Prerequisites	No specific requirements or previous skills are required.
Teaching methods	Lectures, guided classroom discussion.
Learning verification modality	A final written exam will cover the topics covered during the course and explored in greater depth in the recommended textbooks. The exam, lasting 40 minutes, is integrated across the three modules and includes open-ended questions. It is designed to assess the student's level of knowledge, comprehension, and ability to synthesize. It also assesses the student's ability to communicate what they have learned using method, relevance, proper language and presentation, scientific references, and independent judgment.
