Educational objectives Good knowledge of the basics of biology, from molecules to organisms. Ability to design and carry out educational biology activities, particularly using plant organisms.

Extended program Introduction to biology, plant biology as an example of the study of living organisms. Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and their differences. Animal and plant eukaryotic cells and their differences, plastids, and photosynthesis. Cell division, sexual reproduction, cytology, and organography of a higher plant. Flowers, seeds, and fruits. Overview of the main plant groups: bacteria, algae, mosses, ferns, gymnosperms, and angiosperms. Some families of higher plants.

Educational objectives Starting from an understanding of the scientific method, the course progresses toward the study of environmental issues that will shape our future. Scientific rigor is contrasted with social media hearsay and misinformation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of identifying reliable sources to evaluate environmental issues on a case-by-case basis.
