| Contents | Introduction to environmental biotechnologies for the evaluation of processes aimed at energy and product recovery. Applications of biotechnology in the sustainable treatment of wastes, wastewaters, and organic waste matrices from different origins. Analytical methodologies for the study of production systems and the valorization of organic matter. |
| Reference texts | Teaching materials in electronic format provided by the lecturer through the UniStudium online platform. |
| Educational objectives | The course provides knowledge and practical skills in biotechnological processes through the study of analytical methodologies applied to organic matrices. The main skills developed include: - planning and carrying out chemical and biochemical analyses of organic matrices; - analysing and monitoring potential environmental pollutants; - preparing technical-scientific reports. |
| Prerequisites | Basic knowledge of chemistry and biology. |
| Teaching methods | The course includes lectures on the topics covered, complemented by practical examples aimed at facilitating the understanding of the presented methodologies. |
| Other information | Office hours: Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Via G. Duranti 93, Perugia. For information on support services for students with disabilities and/or learning disorders, visit: https://www.unipg.it/disabilita-e-dsa |
| Learning verification modality | The examination consists of a written test and an oral examination. The written test is aimed at assessing the practical skills acquired during the laboratory activities, while the oral examination consists of a discussion on the topics covered in the introductory part of the course. |
| Extended program | The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of biotechnologies applied to the valorization of organic matrices and to the assessment of sustainable biological processes. Particular attention will be devoted to waste biomasses and their treatment for the recovery of energy and fertilizers through anaerobic digestion and composting processes. In addition, methodologies for the analysis of organic matrices, the monitoring of biological processes, and the control of pollutants within production systems will be addressed. |
