The course is organized in two parts.

First Part:
-Migration flows and local labor market.
-Poverty and inequalities
-Educational inequalities and intergenerational mobility

Second Part:
-International trade models.
-Trade and income distribution
-Trade and development

Educational objectives
The course has the following objectives: (i) knowledge of international economics, trade flows and production factors flow. (ii) knowledge of trade policies and their relationship with income distribution. (iii) ability to read scientific economic articles. (iv) ability to work with aggregate data to make statistical tables and figures. (v) ability to produce a short empirical essay.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of microeconomics, mathematics and statistics. Basic use of Excel.
Teaching methods
The course is based on theory lectures. In the second part of the week sessions will be organized with "flipped classroom" methodology and hands-on data analysis sessions.

Learning verification modality
Assessment is based on the submission of a research paper on one of the topics covered during the course, agreed with the instructor during the semester.

The paper must follow the methodological guidelines and evaluation criteria presented by the instructor during the course, and must include a data analysis section.

Evaluation criteria:
-Correctness and rigour in the use of econometric and statistical tools;
-Quality of data analysis and interpretation of results;
-Ability to link empirical findings to the theoretical literature;
-Clarity of exposition and appropriate academic language;
-Independent judgement and originality of approach.

Submission deadlines and format requirements will be communicated by the instructor during the course.

Non-attending students are required to contact the instructor by e-mail before the start of the course to receive specific guidance on the syllabus and the assessment requirements.
