- The course aims to cover the main topics in cultural property law, with a particular focus on training future professionals in the field who are not lawyers

- The course will be conducted using the instructional materials provided by the instructors via the Unistudium platform

- Knowledge of the Italian legal system governing cultural heritage. Ability to read and understand legal instruments for the protection of cultural heritage
- Prerequisites
- The course addresses a specialized topic in law, which requires a basic understanding of the legal system and the fundamental principles of Italian administrative law, with a focus on its structure and functions.

- Any gaps in the prerequisites will be addressed by the instructor during the course; for this reason as well, regular attendance is strongly recommended
- Learning verification modality
- The final exam is administered orally, with the instructor asking questions covering the entire syllabus, in order to assess students’ knowledge of the concepts outlined in the syllabus for the achievement of the stated learning objectives, as well as their ability to communicate what they have learned in a methodical and articulate manner.

- Concepts regarding the sources of law. The legal dimension of cultural heritage. Regulatory developments concerning cultural heritage. Constitutional principles regarding the protection of culture: protection of the landscape and the nation’s historical and artistic heritage. The protection of “heritage” and “cultural property”: (the intangible value of cultural property). The division of legislative and administrative powers. The “enhancement” of cultural assets. The organization and entities involved in protection. Public and private cultural assets. The procedure for verifying cultural interest in publicly owned assets. The declaration of a privately owned “cultural asset”: the different effects. The cultural asset as both a tangible object and an intangible value. Intangible cultural assets.
