| Contents | Fundamentals of stratigraphy. Principles of stratigraphy; definition of bed and relationships between strata; facies and facies heteropy.¿¿Fundamentals of sedimentology. The sedimentary cycle: weathering and erosion; transport and deposition (depositional processes); burial; diagenesis (physical and chemical diagenetic processes). Physical properties of sediments: grain size, fabric, and porosity. Main sedimentary structures. Principles of classification of sedimentary rocks (siliciclastic, carbonate, dolomitic, evaporitic-sulfate, and siliceous): composition, texture, grain structure, and rock identification. Sedimentary environments (siliciclastic, carbonate, and evaporitic systems).¿¿Laboratory and field exercises: identification of the main sedimentary lithotypes; examples of stratigraphic logs; the Umbria–Marche stratigraphic succession. ¿ |
